The scientific techniques involve what is known as The Rep Effect which is a proven formula that exhausts muscles using light weights, while performing high repetitions – this is the secret to developing lean, athletic muscle.

Body pump is a high calorie burning workout that is 55 minutes long and typically burns around 400 calories on average! As you raise your metabolism over time and increase your muscle mass, your body will become capable of burning calories long term.

It’s a fast-paced workout that uses energetic music that keeps you motivate which changes to different tracks. As the music changes so does the focus, going from one muscle group to another to give you a full body workout. You will use a variety of different moves including squats, deadlifts, clean and presses, lunges and bicep curls. How often do you do body pump?

I try to it do at least twice a week.

What do you love most about the body pump class?

Because of the format you know exactly what to expect from a class. So if you don’t feel like working out , you know you’ve done it before so you can do it again and always feel great afterwards. The music is always great and motivating.

Do you do body pump at home or in the gym?

I have done body pump in the gym for many years but since the pandemic I have purchased the Les Mills equipment and now do the workouts at home which I really enjoy. However you can do the workouts with your own dumbbells or body weight and it will still be effective.

How difficult do you find the body pump workout?

Some of the longer tracks can be really challenging so it’s good to keep doing them and building up on the weights. The biceps/triceps tracks are always hard !!

What results have you saw since doing body pump?

Body pump is the perfect strength training for all the major muscle groups, and by consistently doing the class you I can notice my over all body strength improving.

Do you prefer doing pump alone or with others?

I enjoy doing the classes alone, I feel I can push myself without any outside pressure. If you are tired you can do less weights without the guilt.

Does body pump help you more physically or mentally?

Physically the classes are always a challenge, so when you’ve completed one you always feel great, you really feel like you’ve achieved something. They are easy to follow if you are feeling mentally tired and the great music helps you concentrate on just the workout.

Would you recommend pump to other people?

Absolutely, it’s a fantastic workout for all abilities and you can see you’re own progress quickly by upping the weights over time and seeing the changes in your fitness level.

Do you have any body pump before and after stories?

It helps you to perfect your form for the main basic exercises – squats, lunges, press ups. By doing body pump you can only improve.

Do you have any tips for beginners starting body pump?

Start with low weights, if you’re in a class don’t worry what weights other people are using. It’s best to get the form right before piling the weights on to the bar, you will get there. Don’t compromise your form by going too heavy.

What is the biggest health benefit you’ve saw from body pump?

 It helps with your consistency when you know what to expect from a class. The workouts are designed to target your whole body so one class is enough. You can make them as easy and difficult as you feel you are able to do on the day.

Weight training is a great way to burn calories and gain strength. The different tracks give you both strength and cardio training.
